Job Opportunity: Parks Summer Student - Town of Comox:Job description:Parks Summer Student - Town of Comox»» » Town of ComoxParks Summer StudentTemporary Full Time (May - August)The Town of Comox is seeking 5 enthusiastic people for Parks Summer Student positions. This is temporary full-time position (CUPE Local 556) with a rate of pay of $17.89 per hour plus 12.4% in lieu of benefits. The work period will be from May 3, 2021 to August 27, 2021 at 8hrs per day Monday to Friday (7:30am - 4:00pm) Working under the guidance of the Parks Chargehand and senior parks staff, the prosperous candidates will be responsible for assisting in ensuring that parks and public spaces are well maintained and kept in a safe condition for public use. The ideal candidates must be responsible, self-motivated and be able to work in a group setting or independently. Typical tasks & Responsibilities: » Turf maintenance (mowing, line trimming, etc.) » Trail maintenance and repair » General landscaping including weeding and planting » Sports field maintenance » General irrigation » General pruning » Garbage collection, litter picking, and disposal » Small tree maintenance (weeding, staking, mulching, fertilizing, etc.) » Tree and plant watering » Other tasks as required Required expertise & expertise: » Must provide proof of registration as a full time student in the next academic year. » Preference will be given for those enrolled in a parks related field, such as Resource Management, Horticulture, Turf Science, Arboriculture, Environmental studies, Outdoor Recreation, etc., at a recognized University or Technical Institution. » Basic expertise of landscaping and turf care. » capability to follow instructions and deal with other staff and the public in a positive and courteous manner. » Physically fit and able to execute all tasks in an outdoor environment. » Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.
