We have been providing environmental services to a wide variety of clients since 1996. From its origins as a sole proprietorship, SEI has developed into a widely recognized firm, with an exceptionally broad range of services, that is uniquely located in Northern Ontario. SEI currently employs 16 full time and 1 part time, permanent employees in locations across Northern Ontario. In the mining sector, SEI provides services through all stages of the mine’s lifecycle, from exploration, through operation, and into the rehabilitation stage. Services include, baseline studies, environmental assessments, approval applications, monitoring, reporting, closure plan preparation, sampling, data management, aerial surveys and imagery rending, process design, physical design, Aboriginal engagement, and public consultation, as well as physical rehabilitation and monitoring. This applies to all elements of the physical environment – surface water, groundwater, geology, soil, waste water, sewage, tailings management, aquatics and terrestrial biology, air and weather monitoring. SEI also serves the municipal sector with reporting, engineering, and monitoring requirements for new or existing infrastructure in landfills, sewage treatment, drinking water and storm water systems. Our service in the industrial field ranges from environmental compliance to site assessments, occupational health and safety programs such as air monitoring, site decommissioning and remediation. Additionally, SEI also works with private landowners in matters relating to drinking water and septic systems, and environmental site assessments. Job Description TITLE AND DESCRIPTION Intermediate/Senior Hydrogeologist, Geoscientist, or Environmental Engineer. The prosperous candidate will be self-motivated, and will work well independently, as well as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to help support a variety of projects within the mining, industrial, commercial, residential, and municipal sectors. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES » Managing, designing and performing subsurface field geologic/hydrogeologic investigation tasks including drilling supervision, aquifer and geophysical testing, installing monitoring wells/piezometers, and superviseing the collection of soil and groundwater samples » Procuring, coordinating, and superviseing subcontractors (e.g., analytical laboratories, drillers) » Accurately documenting field programs (e.g. completing field forms, drilling logs, field notes, everyday reports, etc.) to identify environmental conditions, observations, and activities » Preparing cost estimates and proposals » Preparing environmental monitoring and technical supporting documents by compiling and interpreting data and summarizing findings, with limited to no assistance » Provide technical advisory, oversight, and review of contaminated sites, with defensible methodology, analysis and recommendations » Support business development initiatives and growth » Create and maintain effective relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and project team members » Mentoring junior and intermediate staff Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS AND expertise » An undergraduate or graduate degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering, or a related field » Professional registration in Ontario (P.Geo. or P.Eng.) is required » Qualified Person (QP) as per Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), Ontario Regulation (O.Reg.) 153/04, as amended, is an asset » A minimum of 7 years practice in a similar function preferably within a consulting environment » broad working expertise of significant legislation » Proficiency in groundwater numerical modelling and/or hydrologic modelling practice is an asset » practice completing hydrogeological testing; including aquifer performance evaluations (e.g. slug tests, pump tests, packer tests) » Strong attention to detail and accuracy is essential » practice writing technical reports and giving presentations to multi-stakeholder groups » Strong interpersonal and communication expertise (oral and written) » A valid class G driver’s license with no restrictions and a clean driving record » capability to operate and maintain field equipment, including equipment calibration to operational and regulatory requirements » capability to operate and maintain machinery to support field work; examples include boat motors, pumps, all terrain vehicles, vehicles, trailers » capability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds without assistance Additional Info EMPLOYMENT TYPE Full-time with benefits, including health benefits and RRSP program.
