At BC Children's Hospital, the Shapedown BC program fosters healthy lifestyle changes with families that are learning about healthy eating and active living. The Shapedown BC program provides a holistic approach to weight management issues for children, adolescents, and their families.

The Shapedown BC program hosts a 10-week group program involving weekly educational sessions that cover the following topics: nutrition, parental limiting setting, screen time, sleep, physical activity, body image and self-esteem, family meals, and communication.

We are pursuing a Social Worker with a Masters designation to our interdisciplinary team!

Key responsibilities include:
   » Coordinating and delivering a comprehensive range of psycho-emotional and social assessments, including child/adolescent screening for mood disorders, disordered eating behaviours and self-esteem issues, by methods such as interviewing children and youth and their families, obtaining significant information, gathering social data, regarding the children and youth and their families and interpreting the data which includes reviewing paper and pencil rating scales, on-line questionnaires that are completed by the child/adolescent and family separately which supplements information attained in interviews.
   » Educating and providing consultation to children and youth and their families and healthcare professionals on psycho-emotional and social issues related to the treatment of obesity disorders.
   » Providing individual and/or group therapy/counselling to program participants.
Our preferred candidate will have practice in:
   » Working with families, children and adolescence; family-located intervention
   » Delivery of group education (in-person and virtually), practice in continuing psychologically-located groups in primary care setting and expertise of group therapy models/techniques
   » Eating disorders, disordered eating
   » Obesity
   » Multidisciplinary setting (core Shapedown BC team is: Physician, Dietitian, Psychologist; we are partnered with the YMCA, who provides the physical activity component of our program)
** This program currently is hosting group sessions via zoom and this job offer is open to candidates that choose a flexible option to work remotely.

What you have:
   » Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work.
   » Minimum 1 year recent related practice with children and their family with a health or disabling condition significant to the service area within BC Children's Hospital & Sunny Hill Health Centre including clinical expertise in assessment, crisis intervention, therapeutic interventions, individual, group and family counseling; must include practice in mental health, child protection, child development, intimate partner violence, chronic health conditions, disabilities, and grief and loss in a health care or hospital setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training or practice.
   » Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.
