ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE
The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is one of 28 regional districts in the Province of British Columbia. Regional Districts across the Province strive to ensure all provincial residents have an effective form of local government, while also representing municipal residents on regional issues. The RDN provides regional governance and services to the municipalities of Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach, as well as seven unincorporated Electoral Areas. Established in 1967, of the 28 Regional Districts in the province, the RDN is British Columbia's fifth most populous Regional District and home to more than 155,000 people

ABOUT THE function
Reporting to the Manager, Building & Bylaw Services, the Superintendent, Building Inspection Services is responsible for the effective operations of the department and ensures that technical requirements, organizational goals and community service standards are met in relation to the delivery of building inspection services in the Regional District of Nanaimo. The Superintendent provides support, advice and recommendations regarding a variety of department operations, technical interpretations and connected legislation. The Superintendent works collaboratively across RDN stakeholders to foster collaborative relationships, partnerships across diverse geographical and innovative construction applications and opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS
The prosperous candidate will have an undergraduate Degree or Diploma in engineering, building technology, architecture or a related field, accreditation as a Certified Professional or Registered Building Official with Building Officials Association of British Columbia, and has a Trades Qualification in carpentry or construction. The prosperous candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years prior job-related practice in a local government setting, including a minimum of three (3) years managery practice, or an equivalent combination of training and practice. The function requires excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication expertise and effective problem-solving abilities. An equivalent combination of training and practice will be considered.
